What is the difference between an MR and an OC?
An OC is an operator containment. The operator at the machine caught a non-conformance, and notified Quality. Their suspect parts are limited to a few baskets and has very little risk of getting to the customer.
An MR is a material review. This is when Quality finds an issue with the parts. This could be one days worth of parts or multiple. The risk of shipping a non-conformance to the customer is greatly increased
What one is better, an OC or an MR?
An OC is better. This is caught as soon as is happened. There is little parts to sort, and there is a very low chance that this will make it to the customer.
